Lambton College Partners with Tiidal Gaming to Create Experiential Learning Opportunities for Esports Students

SARNIA, June 2nd, 2020 – As the gaming and esports industry continues to expand, it brings with it an increased demand for entrepreneurial-minded young people who aren’t just passionate about playing games, but who are also skilled in the strategy, marketing, and business development aspects of this burgeoning sector.

Lambton College and Tiidal Gaming Group Inc., a professional esports and entertainment organization, have formed a new partnership designed to enhance the learning experience for students enrolled in the popular Esports Entrepreneurship & Administration program. As part of the new collaboration, Tiidal will provide internships within Lazarus Esports, the company’s competitive gaming & content division, to five students enrolled in the program.

With a rich history dating back to 2010 as Canada’s first professional esports organization, Tiidal’s focus is to build the leading vertically integrated esports company through owning and operating key businesses across the esports ecosystem. With a core focus of enabling competitive gaming and entertainment, the new alliance with Lambton presents an excellent opportunity for students to learn more about the inner workings of the gaming ecosystem.

Additionally, the collaboration will allow the College to leverage Tiidal’s streaming network to market and promote the Esports program across a network of gaming enthusiasts and professionals.

Charlie Watson, CEO of Tiidal Gaming Group, has also agreed to participate in the program’s advisory committee and will be hosting virtual lectures within the program, as well as consulting on future College Esports initiatives and events.

“The continued growth of our industry relies on our ability to cultivate skilled professionals who are just as enthusiastic about the business of gaming as they are about the games themselves,” says Watson. “We’ve been working with Lambton College since they launched their esports initiatives over three years ago, and we are thrilled to be able to help the academic program grow and look forward to working with graduates who will help us build the future of game-based entertainment.”

Lambton’s Esports Entrepreneurship & Administration program was the first of its kind at an Ontario college and features a diverse course lineup consisting of business, sports marketing, ethical leadership, health promotion and social media courses. Additionally, the program features four distinct esports-specific courses (one per term) that help students develop a strong foundational knowledge of the emerging esports industry.

“This is another example of the many relationships that our Esports Program Coordinator Matthew Hutchinson has developed for our students across the North American Esports gaming industry,” says Chris Slade, Senior Dean, Business, International Education & Computer Studies, Lambton College. “Whether it be internships, event participation, event management or guest speakers, I am very proud that our faculty are so dedicated to creating these practical experiences for our students which we know often leads to post graduate success.”

Limited seats are still available in this program for September. To learn more, go to lambtoncollege.ca/esea.
